Ireland: Socialist Party MP profiled in mainstream media
Monday, April 18 @ 03:29:53 CDT

All that's left?
A profile of Joe Higgins TD (MP) and the Socialist Party in the Sunday Business Post (Ireland) 17 April 2005 By Alison O'Connor
When Joe Higgins rises to his feet in Dáil Eireann, there is usually an air of expectancy. The majority of his 165 colleagues would probably claim that the Socialist Party TD's politics are off the wall, but would surely also recognise him as the best parliamentary performer in their ranks.

World Social Forum 2005
Sunday, January 30 @ 03:16:38 CST

CWI member quoted in British newspaper, ‘The Independent’
The Independent, a London-based newspaper, ran a story on the opening day of the World Social Forum, in which Andre Ferrari, a leading member of Socialismo Revolucionario, the Brazilian section of the CWI, is quoted. This shows how the question of Lula and his governments adoption of neo-liberal policies after coming to power is provoking interest internationally. Andre Ferrari is a member of the Executive Committee of the new party P-Sol (‘Party for Socialism and Liberty’) which was set up as a new party for workers and youth.

Missing Comrade found alive!
Friday, January 14 @ 23:54:47 CST

The CWI can report with great relief, that after heroic efforts to establish the whereabouts of all its members, the United Socialist Party in Sri Lanka has found that it sustained no direct loss of life. The tsunami had crashed into areas where many USP members and their families lived and worked. One Central Committee member in Galle, comrade Piyatilake, was missing for days and the worst was feared. His workplace near the bus station was totally destroyed and two people beside him at the moment the wave struck were swept to their deaths. Piyatilake himself was found to have been severely injured and hospitalised but has now returned to his home to recover fully.

Ireland: Ireland: Socialist MP, Joe Higgins, challenges Kofi Annan, UN Secretary
Wednesday, October 20 @ 03:45:54 CDT

The Irish government has set up an organisation called the National Forum on Europe which is supposed to allow more public discussion on matters related to the European Union. On 14 October the Forum heard an address by the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan who had come to speak about planned reforms to the United Nations. All Party leaders were allowed to address comments to Kofi Annan. The following speech was made by Joe Higgins, the Socialist Party TD in the Irish Parliament. Joe’s speech shows that the public representatives of the cwi do not pull their punches whatever audience they are talking to. Primarily they use their public positions as a platform to give voice to the anger of the thousands of working class people they represent. Annan, reflecting the arrogance of all diplomats and members of the political elite these days, did not answer any of Joe’s questions or refer to any points made in his speech in the summation given to the Forum.

Ireland: ''One Joe Higgins more effective than 5 Sinn Fein TDs''

With Joe Higgins set to visit Australia in August, we thought SP web page visitors would find this fascinating.
The following article is taken from the ‘Irish Examiner’ (12/05/04) newspaper. It shows that even the right wing, social democratic Labour Party in Ireland cannot fail but to be impressed with the role of Joe Higgins, the Socialist Party (cwi) TD (member of Irish parliament) for Dublin West. Joe is nationally known as a fighter of working class people and for standing for working class unity and socialism, in the South and North of the country.
