Iraq invasion: A mistake the US will never recover from
Thursday, June 10 @ 20:37:12 CDT

By John Gowland, Socialist Party Perth
It is said that certain Amazon Indian tribes have developed a wonderfully simple technique of capturing monkeys, high in protein and highly prized. The cage is constructed with a nut inside but designed so that when the monkey grabs the nut its clench fist will be too large to be pulled out of the cage. The hunters simply pick the monkey up and the hunt could not be easier. The point is that despite imminent capture the monkeys cannot let go of the nut.

Why I joined the Socialist Party
Wednesday, June 09 @ 20:03:18 CDT

By Chris McFerran, 32, East Melbourne
I’ve never been much of a one for doing the right thing, usually because it doesn’t occur to me at the time. I consider myself the Crown Prince of what I call ‘wit delay’, the ability to think of a highly amusing retort several hours after it matters. I often find myself re-running conversations I’ve had with someone over and over in my head, becoming more debonair, eloquent and suave with each repetition. In hindsight, I’m a regular Bogart. The most annoying aspect of this is that the older I get, the worse I become at not doing or saying the right thing at the time, and the wittier the replies are later that night when I’m lying in bed thinking, "Jesus, why didn’t I say that? Now you think of it, you moron." It’s generally a big pain in the arse.

Indonesian elections: No workers' alternative on offer
Thursday, June 03 @ 01:14:32 CDT

As over 120 Millon Indonesians went to the polls on April 5th they were faced with a stark choice. Of the two major parties on offer was incumbent Democratic Party of Indonesia led by President Megawati Sukarnopoutri which for the past 5 years has failed to tackle any of the problems facing the ordinary people of Indonesia. The other major "choice" open to voters was Golkar, the party machine which supported the military dictator of 30 years, Soeharto.
