Report on the Casual Workers' Conference

About 80 mainly young casual workers attended the Unite Casual Workers’ Conference in Melbourne’s Trades Hall on April 3rd. After a VJ performance (video and reggae music) on casualisation, the Conference was opened by Lynn Beaton, a left wing academic concentrating on the rise of casualisation. She showed with facts and figures that casualisation is a massive growing feature of Australia’s workplace relations, especially effecting women.

Militant Aboriginal Activist to speak at Trades Hall this Tuesday

This Tuesday, in marvellous timing, the SP (Melbourne City branch) hosts Gary Foley talking on the future for Aboriginal Australia.
Gary is one of the most militant Aboriginal activists in Australia, active since the Freedom Marches of the 1960s to struggle (successful) to save Northland Secondary College from Kennett's closures in 1993-94.
The meeting will be at the Trades Hall bar, 7.30pm, this Tuesday April 20th.
