Ireland: ''One Joe Higgins more effective than 5 Sinn Fein TDs''
Tuesday, May 18 @ 23:23:56 CDT

With Joe Higgins set to visit Australia in August, we thought SP web page visitors would find this fascinating.
The following article is taken from the ‘Irish Examiner’ (12/05/04) newspaper. It shows that even the right wing, social democratic Labour Party in Ireland cannot fail but to be impressed with the role of Joe Higgins, the Socialist Party (cwi) TD (member of Irish parliament) for Dublin West. Joe is nationally known as a fighter of working class people and for standing for working class unity and socialism, in the South and North of the country.

What does the US/Aus Free Trade Agreement mean for workers?
Thursday, April 22 @ 21:02:55 CDT

By Renate Cumalkovs, Socialist Party Perth
For many workers it is difficult to understand the real implications of the Australia-United States Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Both ruling classes participating in the negotiations have responded in terms of self-interest, that is, all seem interested in pursuing goals that will have the most effect in filling their own pockets.

Footy Rapes
Thursday, April 22 @ 20:58:35 CDT

By Stephen Jolly, Socialist Party Melbourne
Professional footballers are treated like thoroughbred race horses or gladiators of old. As the late Peter Ustinov’s gladiator trainer character said in the classic movie Spartacus: “A gladiator is like a stallion. It must be pampered. You’ll be oiled, bathed, shaved, massaged, taught to use your heads. Approximately half our graduates live for five, ten...ten years.”

Howard's attack on women
Thursday, April 22 @ 20:52:31 CDT

By Samantha Ashby
Socialist Party, Newcastle
In the run up to the federal elections Liberal and Labor have ‘family values’ at the center of their campaigns. So are they going to change the lives of working class families? No - they are planning some superficial changes that won’t impact on the real issues.
The biggest issues that improve family life are full employment and decent wages, good education for all children and a supportive benefit system that supports older people and those with illnesses, and families leaving their countries as refugees. The following article reveals the real state of family values in Australia and puts forward the Socialist Party’s agenda for change.
