'Aussie' leads to sacking
Posted on Thursday, August 21 @ 03:55:40 CDT by spno

Australian politics When US-owned Four 'n Twenty pie workers were told their company was being bought by a local boss they didn't expect this...

"Buying Australian" is a sham The recent fate of Four 'n Twenty pie workers in Kensington, Melbourne should be a sobering lesson for all economic nationalists. The US owners Simplot sold the firm to good old 'Aussie' Pattie's Pies - who promptly decided to expand their Bairnsdale plant, taking on 100 new workers, but to close down the Kensington plant and lay off 270 other workers. Pattie's Chief Executive Richard Rijs kindly allowed the 270 Melbourne workers to apply for the 100 Gippsland jobs if they liked. The only way to defend jobs is for workers unity both here and with fellow workers overseas - not hope that 'Aussie' bosses will be better than overseas ones.
